Mexico have announced the official list for the Concacaf Nations League final after making several cuts from the first list released for a training camp and the friendly against Iceland. Mexico will be playing in the semifinal against Costa Rica on June 3rd.
The final list is the following:
Goalkeepers: Guillermo Ochoa (America), Alfredo Talavera (Pumas), Rodolfo Cota (Leon)
Defenders: Nestor Araujo (Celta), Gerardo Arteaga (Genk), Jesus Gallardo (Monterrey), Hector Moreno (Al-Gharafa), Carlos Salcedo (Tigres), Luis Romo (Cruz Azul), Luis Rodriguez (Tigres), Jorge Sanchez (America)
Midfielders: Hector Herrera (Atletico Madrid), Edson Alvarez (Ajax), Andres Guardado (Betis), Erick Gutierrez (PSV Eindhoven), Carlos Rodriguez (Monterrey), Jonathan Dos Santos (LA Galaxy), Uriel Antuna (Chivas), Orbelin Pineda (Cruz Azul)
Forwards: Hirving Lozano (Napoli), Jesus Corona (Porto), Henry Martin (America), Alan Pulido (Sporting Kansas City)
The most notable omission was of course the most expected as Raul Jimenez was dropped from the list, as he wasn’t cleared to play by his club Wolverhampton Wolves. It was a tough situation, as Jimenez hadn’t played a match since his head injury in a match against Arsenal but was expected to reappear in their final match. In the end he came out for the warmups before the match but didn’t even make it to the bench. The other notable omission is Diego Lainez of Real Betis. It might have been expected that he was going to be with the U24 team as he falls in the age category, but like teammates from the U24s Sebastian Cordova and Roberto Alvarado, he didn’t make the final list. Surprisingly Uriel Antuna, Carlos Rodriguez, and Jorge Sanchez, all of whom are also available for the U24, did make the team. The other cuts were Cesar Montes (who was injured in Monterrey’s final Liga MX match against Santos), Osvaldo Rodriguez, and Rodolfo Pizarro.
Mexico will play against Iceland on Saturday May 29th with most of the team before they go with this final call up list to Denver, where they will play the Semifinal against Costa Rica and then depending on the result either the third place match or the final on June 6th.
