Confirmed: México Women’s Senior National Team to play Spain on April 13

Mexican Federation (FMF) confirms match against Spain, however there is still room for a second friendly - if they can find competition.

El Tri Femenil will be heading to Europe for the international break where they’ll face Spain on April 13 in Marbella, the Mexican Federation (FMF) confirmed earlier today. Spain had already committed to playing against the Netherlands on April 9, and rumors abound that México are looking for a team to play on the earlier date.

It’s still early in the process, but it’s worth noting that Mexico has several players playing professionally in Spain and neighboring Portugal, and still more throughout the European continent. Spain’s current COVID-19 restrictions would require most anyone traveling from outside of the EU to “have a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 RT – PCR or TMA test result, taken at most 72 hours before arrival”, so players from México aren’t excluded provided they can pass a COVID test.

A potential issue is finding an opponent for the earlier date. Abigail Parra of Mediotiempo indicated via tweet that Portugal for instance had already confirmed dates against Russia, while the Netherlands confirmed they were playing against Australia in addition to Spain.
