Mexico have announced their second friendly in their European trip when they officially announced Algeria as their rival in a match to be played on October 13, 2020 in The Hague, Netherlands. Mexico. The match would take place in Cars Jeans Stadium. This would be Mexico’s third match in 2020, after the September 30th match in Estadio Azteca against Guatemala and then traveling to Amsterdam to face the Netherlands in a Match on October 7th. Mexico has only played once against Algeria, back in 1985 in a game which Mexico won by a score of 2-0.

Algeria, the current African Nations Championship titleholder, is a tough squad that present a good level for a friendly. Mexico was expected to play against New Zealand in Europe as the second friendly, but it fell through. Later it was expected to be Qatar before finally reaching an agreement with Algeria, a better squad than the previous two teams. If there is no problem in Mexico traveling to Europe because of the COVID-19 pandemic (although reports have mentioned that the Mexican federation already has the permits to travel to the European Union), this should be the best competition Mexico will face maybe until next year if the March FIFA dates are taken advantage of now that CONCACAF has postponed the CONCACAF Nations League Finals until June of 2021. 2021 should be a very busy year, with Mexico taking part in the World Cup qualifiers and the Gold Cup, with very little opportunity to face top teams since the rest of the World will also be heavily congested in football activity because of all the postponements from 2020 because of the COVID-19 emergency.
