The Liga de Balompie Mexicano continues to make headlines. A couple of days following Ramón Ramírez’s appointment as Ensenada FC’s Athletic Director, now it’s Carlos Salcido taking the spotlight, as he has reportedly been named League President. The 40-year-old will take on the position previously occupied by Victor Montiel, who will now be promoted to President of Asociacion del Balompie Mexicano.
Salcido made his player debut as a member of Chivas back in 2001, and would remain there until following the 2006 World Cup, where he had an important role under the tutelage of Ricardo LaVolpe in the Mexican National Team. He was transferred to Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, who compete in the Eredivisie (1st Division). After his four year spell in the Netherlands, he would be transferred to Premier League side Fulham, where he would only last for a season before returning to Mexico, where he would join Tigres and cause an immediate impact, as he would help lead them to their first title in nearly 30 years.
Three years later, he would return to Chivas, the team that saw him rise to stardom, and play there for four and a half more years. Finally, he would go on to play his final year in Veracruz, for the worst First Division team in Mexican football history. Salcido played his final game just a few months ago, in November, against Chivas, coincidentally.
So, there we have yet another big name who joins the Liga de Balompie Mexicano. The official announcement is yet to be made, but Ensenada FC have gone ahead and spoiled the surprise for everyone, as they posted a letter on their twitter feed, which read, “… we want to congratulate Mr. Carlos Arnoldo Salcido Flores for his appointment as Liga de Balompie Mexicano President. We are convinced that with his ample accomplishments and experience as a player, he will undoubtedly take on and carry this important position successfully, which is more than deserved thanks to his dedication and effort displayed for the good of sports, both in our country and abroad.”
He will join this up-and-coming league which we still know so little about but which continues to attract attention and get noticed more by the day. And they will continue to do so if they keep up this caliber of bombshells.
