Liga MX President Enrique Bonilla announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19. Bonilla becomes the second Liga MX person to state he had the COVID-19 virus. Alberto Marrero, president of Atletico San Luis, was the first case as he announced days before he had tested positive for the virus. Bonilla had supposedly taken a business trip to Madrid before, but there was no word yet of where he might have contracted the disease.

Enrique Bonilla has also announced that because of the COVID-19 virus he will have to isolate but will keep taking part through teleconferencing of all the goings-on in Liga MX. Like the majority of leagues in the world, Liga MX has been suspended because of the COVID-19 virus. There is no word yet or timetable of when the league will return to play or even if the season will continue. After a week where the majority of games were played behind closed doors, Liga MX stopped action on Sunday March 15. Cruz Azul is the currently sitting in first place in Liga MX with eight games still left to be played.
