With the addition of Monterrey players and without players from Concacaf Champions League, Mexico announced the call up list to the latest training camp of the U23 team in preparation for the Olympic qualifiers to be held in March. Mexico will be holding the training camp from February 23 to February 26 under Coach Jaime Lozano and will conclude with a closed door friendly against a team that wasn’t named.
The call up list is the following:
Goalkeepers: Jose Hernandez (Atlas), Luis Malagon (Morelia)
Defenders: Cesar Montes (Monterrey), Johan Vasquez (Pumas), Ismael Govea (Atlas), Alan Mozo (Pumas), Aldo Cruz (Tijuana), Gilberto Sepulveda (Chivas), Kristian Alvarez (Pachuca), Vladimir Loroña (Tijuana), Adrian Mora (Toluca)
Midfielders: Carlos Rodriguez (Monterrey), Ricardo Angulo (Chivas), Jonathan Gonzalez (Monterrey), Erick Aguirre (Pachuca), Jose Esquivel (FC Juarez), Francisco Figueroa (Pachuca), Fernando Beltran (Chivas), Jairo Torres (Atlas), Alan Cervantes (Santos)
Forwards: Jose Juan Macias (Chivas), Eduardo Aguirre (Santos), Alexis Vega (Chivas), Marcel Ruiz (Queretaro)
The most notable of the call ups is the return of Monterrey players for the first time in 2020. Coach Lozano will work for the first time with Cesar Montes and will have Carlos Rodriguez for the first full training camp. Last year, Rodriguez was called up for a training camp but left in the middle of it after getting called up for the senior team during the Nations League to replace an injured player. Players from America, Cruz Azul, Tigres and Leon were not called since they will be playing in the Concacaf Champions League next week. This meant players like Sebastian Cordova, Jorge Sanchez, Roberto Alvarado, Sebastian Jurado and Santiago Gimenez will miss the training camp. Mexico will debut in the Concacaf Olympic qualifiers on March 20 against the Dominican Republic.
