Mexico continues the preparations for the U23 Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Tournament as they announce a training camp to be held from February 2nd to 5th in the Centro de Alto Rendimiento (CAR). Under coach Jaime Lozano, the call up list did not include players from America, Puebla, Monterrey and Necaxa because those teams will be playing their postponed match from the first week of Liga MX play.
The callup list is the following:
Goalkeepers: Sebastian Jurado (Cruz Azul), Jose Hernandez (Atlas)
Defenders: Alejandro Mayorga (Pumas), Gerardo Arteaga (Santos), Alan Mozo (Pumas), Kevin Alvarez (Pachuca), Gilberto Sepulveda (Chivas), Johan Vasquez (Pumas), Juan Sanchez (Tigres), Brayton Vasquez (Atlas), Efrain Orona (Pachuca)
Midfielders: Roberto Alvarado (Cruz Azul), Marcel Ruiz (Queretaro), Jose Esquivel (FC Juarez), Ricardo Angulo (Chivas), Adrian Lozano (Santos), Francisco Venegas (Tigres), Alan Cervantes (Santos), Fernando Beltran (Chivas)
Forwards: Uriel Antuna (Chivas), Jesus Godinez (Leon), Eduardo Aguirre (Santos), Santiago Gimenez (Cruz Azul), Paolo Yrizar (Queretaro)
The names that attract more attention are all from Cruz Azul. Roberto Alvarado, who is a regular callup with the Senior National Team will be making his first camp under Jaime Lozano. Also notable is the return of goalkeeper Sebastian Jurado and the first call up of Santiago Gimenez, who had been part of the U18 National Team but not the U23. There is also the return of Pumas and Juarez players, who missed last camp because of their Liga MX game that was played on Thursday. Among those missing are Jose Juan Macias and Alexis Vegas of Chivas. Both of the players are injured and missed Chivas’ last game against Toluca and will probably miss this week’s game against Atletico San Luis.
