A double from 22-year-old Sebastian Cordova, a penalty from Emanuel Aguilera and another from Henry Martin helped Club América to a 4-1 home win over Chivas in the Clásico Nacional on Saturday.
Las Águilas wasted just 18 minutes to get in front when a picture-perfect breakaway finished with a marvelous reception and finish from Sebastian Cordova.
There was a worrying sign as Giovani dos Santos was carried off and transported to a hospital nearby following a scary injury. Chivas defender Antonio Briseño was completely at fault there was deservedly sent off.
Better news was to come for América, and at the stroke of halftime, Miguel Herrera’s men made it 2-0 when Cordova got in front of a Paul Aguilar pass to smash in his second goal of the night.
Minutes into the second half, Chivas got themselves back in when Alan Pulido rifled in a shot past Guillermo Ochoa.
América were starting to look a little ragged, but Las Águilas gave a warning of what was to come after Cordova came close to grabbing his hat-trick when Chivas goalkeeper Antonio Rodriguez was forced to a diving save.
After a previous penalty call was reviewed on VAR, a second review moments later awarded América a penalty for a handball inside the box. In the subsequent protesting, Alan Cervantes was sent off for Chivas, leaving the Guadalajara outfit down to nine men.
Emanuel Aguilera stepped up and made no mistake from the penalty spot to put the score at 3-1 in favor of América.
With Las Águilas now coasting, Henry Martin added to Chivas’ misery by unleashing a scissor kick for the 4-1.
At the end, América cruised to their first win in seven matches and did it against a Chivas side that looked more embarrassing than anything else.
