For consecutive games, Chivas will face a team who struggled at the beginning of the season but is improving when they face Pachuca. Los Tuzos will hope their bad start is behind them after a draw away to league leaders Santos and a crushing win against Xolos at home. Meanwhile, Chivas will need to bounce back at home in their final game before their biggest regular season meeting against their main rival America.
Chivas’ struggles in the regular season have continued. After defeating their city rivals Atlas in their second most anticipated match of the regular season, it seemed Chivas would get out of its funk, but defeat to Morelia made those doubts return. Chivas had more of the possession and might have deserved better but their offensive problems returned and they produced a lot less dangerous chances than expected against a Morelia side that sat back. With the biggest match in the regular season, the Superclasico, coming on Saturday, Chivas need to make a statement before traveling to Mexico City to take on Las Águilas.
After making a trip to the Liguilla last season, Pachuca’s season started terribly with three losses out of the first four games. While they bounced back with a big win against Puebla, they didn’t shake their problems. Then the international break came and in the return Pachuca got a strong tie away in Torreon against current leaders Santos. Then they trounced Tijuana with a 4-1 win, in which they might have even scored more goals. Now, Pachuca will need a good performance against Chivas to assure their fans they are back in the right path.
Chivas will have a tough match this week at home against Pachuca. The pressure is building on Coach Tomas Boy, and the match against America on Saturday might be the breaking point if things go sour. Thus Chivas needs to bounce back after the Morelia game and the Pachuca match will be key for Chivas going into the Estadio Azteca.
