San Luis Potosí hasn’t been an easy place to play for the home side, and Santos Laguna was more than happy to continue that trend, downing Atlético San Luis 3-2 to give Atleti a record of 1W 2D 2L at home.

Atleti had the first chance of the match in the fifth minute when Nicolás Ináñez was able to settle a ricocheted ball near the spot, turn, and fire all in one move. The shot however was blocked deep and went harmlessly out of bounds. A minute later however Julio Furch put Santos on the board when Brian Lozano was able to fight for and win a ball along the right side of the box and hit a cross to Furch, who was able to slot the ball into the wide open net.

Atleti would level it in the 13th minute however Ibáñez went unmarked on a free kick and was able to put his head onto the attempt, beating goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco. Santos would answer almost immediately when Eryc Castillo hit a shot from the right that was saved by goalkeeper Carlos Rodríguez, but the rebound went directly to Adrián Lozano, He was able to hit a hard shot from close range into the open net.

Brian Lozano almost extended the lead in the 23rd minute when he hit a shot from close range as he fell, but Carlos Rodríguez did well to make the save. A minute later at the other end of the field, a cross was sent sent in and Juan Castro was able to hit a strong header but it went directly into the hands of Jona Orozco.

In the 32nd minute, Ian González was able to hit a shot off of a corner kick that Jona Orozco made a fantastic diving save on. The play was reviewed by VAR to see if a foul was committed by Eryc Castillo on Unai Bilbao, and referee Roberto García determined that one was and pointed to the spot. Ian González stepped up and converted the penalty to draw the sides level once more.

The play was pretty back and forth until the 62nd minute when Brian Lozano hit a curling shot from the top of the box that caught Carlos Rodríguez flat-footed, beating his diving save attempt.

Eryc Castillo had a shot in the 80th minute that was well saved by Rodríguez. Castillo had another attempt in the 83rd minute from a tight angle that went into the side netting. San Luis seemed to be gassed as play went on, being unable to press forward in any sustained fashion. Santos was patient, content to hang back and control the flow of play until the final whistle sounded.

Atleti will head to Toluca to face los Diablos Rojos on Thursday in Liga MX play, while Santos returns to Torreón to Veracruz on Wednesday.
