Chivas will hope to continue their winning ways after defeating Atlas, as their coach Tomas Boy faces the team in which he coached his only Liga MX final, Monarcas Morelia. Morelia meanwhile returns home after getting a key away win in Toluca as new coach Pablo Guede has changed the face of the team and made it into a contender. If Chivas meanwhile gets the result, the boost will come prior to next week’s big game against their biggest rival, Club America.
Chivas’ struggling season took a pause when they got the victory at home against their city rivals Atlas in their second biggest regular season game. While Tomas Boy looked in deep trouble, the win buys him some time as the week of the big game starts. Next Saturday the biggest game in Mexico happens when Chivas travels to Mexico City to face America. Yet before the biggest game, Boy will have the match against Morelia and a midweek Liga MX game at home against Pachuca. Chivas will need to have a positive result, but it will a tough match against a team that has improved a lot and are at home.
Morelia had a rocky start to the tournament and it ended up costing coach Javier Torrente his job. New coach Pablo Guede came in and immediately got a win at home against Pumas. The team has improved a lot led by Venezuelan forward Fernando Aristeguieta. Guede is still undefeated in Morelia and are set to continue their record against a Chivas team who might be on a high from the Atlas win but whose results prior to that game weren’t good.
Morelia and Chivas open the week with a game that looks to be exiting and tough to predict. Morelia should be favored, as their recent improvement has been more notable as well as longer than Chivas’, while them being at home benefits them greatly although Chivas will probably have a majority of fans in the stands. Still Guede looks to be doing a better job than Boy, and Chivas might not have the result it needs to keep up as they prepare for their biggest match on the regular season, eight short days from now.
