The first Leagues Cup champion in history will be crowned this Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nevada when defending Liga MX champs Tigres take on La Máquina Cementera de la Cruz Azul.

For both teams, it will be the second title available to them this season after Cruz Azul previously won the SuperCopa MX title over Necaxa and Tigres lost the Campeón de Campeones title to América.

Neither team arrives in very good shape, with Cruz Azul playing only their second game under new manager Robert Siboldi. For day-to-day Liga MX observers, La Máquina has dominated the headlines in recent weeks, and a win here could help quell some the turmoil created ahead of what promises to be a difficult second half of the season in Liga MX.

Meanwhile, Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti’s men haven’t been terrible, but they have drawn each of their last six matches, including a 2-2 draw against América in the Semifinals of this same Leagues Cup tournament.

That said, it’s all a matter of perception, and Tigres haven’t lost a game in each of their last eight across all competitions. Furthermore, since we are in Vegas, all the oddsmakers have Los Felinos as legitimate favorites to win the title, and after wining last season’s Liga MX trophy, nobody can deny Tigres’s title-winning pedigree during the last decade.

Who do you think will win tonight’s match and what have your overall thoughts on this first Leagues Cup tournament been?
