Fresh from breaking Sebastian Giovinco’s record of most combined goals and assists in a single Major League Soccer season, Vela was back to running MLS defenses on Wednesday night. The 30-year old Mexican forward scored arguably one of the goals of the season when in the 41st minute he essentially erased four San Jose Earthquakes players a-la-Thanos before nonchalantly placing the ball into the back of the net.
Further evidence of who the best player in MLS currently is. Vela is quietly having one of the best seasons in MLS history (if not the best) and is basically running away with the MVP trophy.
Meanwhile, his team Los Angeles Football Club also appears to be running away with the MLS Supporters’ Shield. The Black and Gold are first in the MLS standings with 61 points and are the undisputed favorites to win the MLS Cup. LAFC went on to win this match 4-0 thanks to a Carlos Vela brace.
