Carlos Vela became the top Mexican goalscorer in Major League Soccer history as his goal on Sunday helped propel Los Angeles FC to a 4-2 win over New York Red Bulls.

Vela had another game to remember for the Black and Gold, scoring a goal and notching two assists.
Vela’s goal was his 23rd of the season and his 37th overall since arriving to MLS, surpassing previous Mexican top goalscorer Erick “Cubo” Torres.
The 30-year-old’s record-breaking campaign currently has him at the top of the season’s scorers list, while his two assists also helped him reach the top of the assists table with 15.
In addition to being the clear-cut favorite to win the MVP trophy, his team is also on path to have a historic season. For LAFC, this was their 17th win of the season, which has them at the very top of the Supporters’ Shield standings with 55 points.
