Renato Ibarra scored in the 63rd minute to give Club América a 1-0 victory over Toluca on Sunday.

Toluca forward Felipe Pardo got the hosts off to a quick start with a pair of chances, including a 19th minute save from América goalkeeper Oscar Jimenez.

Overall, goal-scoring chances were slim in the first half, with América’s only shot on target coming from a long distance effort from Guido Rodriguez.

In the 61st minute, Andres Ibarguen placed a long ball into the path of Renato Ibarra, and the Ecuadorian forward needed just a few inches to drive a low right-footed shot past Toluca goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera to give Las Águilas the lead.

Toluca had perhaps their best chance of equalizing moments later when Felipe Pardo sent a dangerous cross into the box, but his right-footed attempt for an assist went untouched inside the area.

Las Águilas then easily held on for the last 20 minutes of the match, as Miguel Herrera’s men went on to record their third win of the season.

For the Diablos Rojos, their miserable start to the season continues. Toluca are now penultimate in the league table with just one point and are winless across their first four matches of the Apertura.
