Uriel Antuna scored a hat-trick as Mexico opened their 2019 Gold Cup campaign with a 7-0 rout over Cuba.
It took just two minutes for El Tri to get their first when Uriel Antuna found the back of the net following a loose ball inside the box.
After a pair of missed chances, Mexico made it 2-0 in the 30th minute, with Raul Jimenez controlling inside the box before slotting past the Cuban goalkeeper.
The third goal arrived moments later. This time it was Diego Reyes who found himself with a rebound inside the box to fire in the 3-0.
All the rebounds appeared going El Tri’s way, and with halftime approaching, Antuna would grab his second to score the 4-0.
Mexico’s scoring didn’t stop there, and early into the second period, Raul Jimenez made it five after blasting a shot through the Cuban goalkeeper for his second goal of the night.
In the 74th minute, Antuna fed the ball to Alexis Vega, who just minutes after being substituted on made it half a dozen for El Tri.
And Mexico finished off their night with Antuna completing his hat-trick after the Galaxy forward pounced on a saved shot from Alexis Vega to put the final scoreline at 7-0.
Mexico arrived to this match in good form, and from the start, the win was never in doubt. Now, things are set to get a lot tougher for El Tri, who will take on Canada on Wednesday in their second game of Group A.
