As far as the Quarterfinals go, this is arguably the biggest tie of the round as Club América and Cruz Azul renew their rivalry at the Estadio Azteca.

After losing last season’s Liga MX Final to Las Águilas, Cruz Azul are now provided with a genuine opportunity at getting some small revenge over their Mexico City rivals. But while La Máquina finished the regular season in better form, Club América has always been a pebble in La Máquina’s shoe. In fact, Cruz Azul haven’t been able to beat Las Águilas in 14 straight Liga MX matches.

América arrive to this match with one trophy already in their hands after winning the Copa MX title earlier in the year. Las Águilas are obviously no slouch and there is a reason why they are the defending Liga MX champions. Miguel Herrera’s men are hardwired to perform well in the Liguilla and particularly in big moments like this one.

That said, anything can happen in the Liguilla, especially in two-legged ties, and for both teams, it all starts here at the Estadio Azteca. As the Champions League has shown this year, no lead or amount of history can save you. These are the kind of ties that require 100% focus and concentration if you want to continue to have a chance at winning the title.
