Coach Jaime Lozano has announced the list of players for Mexico in the 2019 Toulon Tournament. Mexico will come to the tournament preparing itself for the Olympic qualifiers to be played later this year and will hope to improve on last year’s tournament, where led by Diego Lainez the Mexican team got to the final and finished in second place. Lainez will not be part of this team (he’s going to the U20 World Cup in May), but a couple of key players like Pumas’s Alan Mozo and Veracruz keeper Sebastian Jurado will make the trip. Meanwhile, Monterrey’s dynamic duo of Jonathan Gonzalez and Carlos Rodriguez were also not called.
Other notable players that will be present are Liga MX regulars like Erick Aguirre, Adrian Mora, Sebastian Cordova, Cristian Calderon and Victor Loroña. Also some players that didn’t have great seasons like Eduardo Aguirre, Marcel Ruiz and Fernando Beltran will have the opportunity bounce back in the U-23 team.
Mexico is in Group C along with Ireland, China and Bahrain. They will make their debut on June 3rd against Bahrain, then play Ireland on June 6th before closing out the Group Stage with China (like in 2018) on June 9th.
