Rayados de Monterrey’s Rogelio Funes Mori was named Liga Bancomer MX Player of the Week for a second time this season, this time for Jornada 14, by a poll of Liga MX English-language writers and broadcasters.
Funes Mori had three goals in Monterrey’s 4-0 win against Santos Laguna. It was the Argentine’s first hat-trick of the season and his first time finding the back of the net in the league since the Clasico Regio during Jornada 10.
In the 60th minute, Funes Mori made a great triangulation with Rodolfo Pizarro and Aviles Hurtado. Both Funes Mori and Hurtado raced inside Santos’ area before the Colombian kicked a pass right through the legs of a Santos defender and found Funes Mori, who kicked home the 2-0 advantage for Rayados.

16 minutes later, the Monterrey lead would turn into a blowout after another pass from Hurtado down the left wing found Funes Mori with a defender on him. Rayados’ No. 7 didn’t let the ball stop rolling before slotting it right past keeper Carlos Acevedo.

Finally, the final nail in the coffin came two minutes from the end on a solo run from Funes Mori complete with a nutmeg to Santos’ Martin Nervo.

Funes Mori came away with a 9.5 match rating via SofaScore. The twin from Mendoza had two successful dribbles, one defensive clearance and won five of his seven duels during the match.
Funes Mori’s eleven goals has him one behind León’s Ángel Mena as the leading goalscorer in Liga Bancomer MX. More than that, his hat-trick took his goal tally in Monterrey to 86 career goals to become Rayados’ third highest goalscorer in club history. He’s now just behind Mario Bahia de Souza (96) and Humberto Chupete Suazo (121).
With three games left in the season, Diego Alonso’s team is third in the Liga MX with 26 points and is set to face crosstown rivals Tigres UANL in the first ever Clasico Regio in a CONCACAF Champions League final later this month.
Funes Mori took home POTW honors this season once before back in Jornada 4. His teammate Dorlan Pabon is another Monterrey player to win the honor during Jornada 9.
