So far, so good for Gerardo “Tata” Martino. In the Argentine’s first game in charge of the Mexico National Team, El Tri earned a comprehensive 3-1 win over Chile. Now, Tata and his team travel to Santa Clara, California to take on Paraguay in a tune up ahead of the 2019 Gold Cup.

Paraguay have been in something of a slump in recent months, and arrive to this game after the controversial departure of former Mexico National Team manger Juan Carlos Osorio. The Colombian bid farewell to the Paraguay job after just four months, leaving the federation to scramble for a new manager ahead of the start of the 2019 Copa America. In his place arrives Eduardo Berizzo, who suffered a defeat in his first game in charge in a friendly against Peru by a score of 1-0.

Given that this will be the last game El Tri plays before the Gold Cup, wholesale changes are expected in Martino’s starting lineup, with Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez rumored to be leading the line and Diego Lainez and Roberto Alvarado on the wings.

Mexico and Paraguay have faced each other 19 times, with El Tri getting the better of Albirroja on 10 occasion. Five of those were draws, while the other four were Paraguay victories.
