Monterrey go into this match looking to stay undefeated in the Clausura 2019, as they sit in second place with 18 points from eight matches. Chivas, on the other hand, enter the match in 5th place with 14 points from eight matches. Chivas will be looking to solidify their Liguilla credentials with a win over one of the favorites for the title, while Monterrey will be looking to get a win on the road against a tough opponent and get the bad taste of the 1-0 aggregate victory over Alianza FC in the Champions League out of its mouth.

Chivas pasted Los Rayados at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer in the Apertura as Monterrey lost 4-2 and had perhaps its worst performance of the entire season. However, the one player that Chivas didn’t have to face that day, Rogelio Funes Mori, traveled with the team this time around and will probably be in the starting lineup.
Monterrey have spent a ton of money on players in the last two transfer windows, but the most important player right now has to be Funes Mori. In the matches where he doesn’t play, Monterrey often look unable to score, and when the other team takes him out of the game, as Alianza did in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League match, then Monterrey also struggle to score.
Former Chivas player Rodolfo Pizarro makes his return to the Estadio Akron, as does Ángel Zaldívar, while Luis Madrigal and Jesús Molina face their former club for the first time as well.
This should be one of the better matches of the weekend, with Monterrey looking to get back on track before next week’s match up against Atlanta United, while Chivas will be looking to catch Los Rayados distracted and vulnerable.
