Chivas Guadalajara were denied a move back to the top of the league table after failing to create a spark in a scoreless home draw versus Veracruz on Monday.

The result wasn’t what the Rojiblancos were expecting, facing arguably one of the worst teams in Liga MX.

Hiram Mier and Alexis Vega came very close in the opening minutes for Chivas, with the latter striking the woodwork from a good chance inside the box.

But while the hosts continued to pile on the pressure, Veracruz keeper Sebastian Jurado kept denying shot after shot from the Rebaño. Jurado was sensational for the Tiburones Rojos, collecting a total of six saves on the match.

In the second half, Chivas hoped the break would bring a turning point in the match, but instead it was the visitors who at moments looked like the better team. The Tiburones Rojos had their best chance to win the game in the 85th minute when Christian Menendez hit a one-time shot into the crossbar following a great reception inside the box.

At the end, Chivas failed to carve out any more good opportunities and had to settle for a disappointing draw against the last-placed team in the relegation table.
