Tigres will look to overcome a 1-0 deficit to reach the Quarterfinals of the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League as they play host to Deportivo Saprissa at the Estadio Universitario. The First Leg ended 1-0 in favor of the Costa Ricans, who managed to score the only goal of the match in the 76th minute through Johan Venegas.
Los Felinos arrive to this match on the back of a 1-0 win over Club Atlas and are currently top of the league in Mexico with 19 points. Meanwhile, Saprissa lost their last match, 2-1 against Limón.
The big news for this one will be the absence of Tigres’ star striker Andre-Pierre Gignac. The Frenchman was also absent in the First Leg, and his unavailability will no doubt be a big blow for Los Felinos.
Historically, Tigres have only lost once at home in the CONCACAF Champions League, and it was against Club América. Saprissa, however, don’t need to win to advance to the Quarterfinals. An away goal could completely change the realm of this tie, and they’ll like their chances, given that Tigres have conceded an away goal in each of their last three CCL matches at the Estadio Universitario.
The winner of this tie will face the winner between Guastatoya and Houston Dynamo.
