Toluca lose 3-0 at Sporting Kansas City in CONCACAF Champions League

MLS: Champions League-Toluca at Sporting KC Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Sporting Kansas City scored two second half goals, sealing a comfortable 3-0 victory over Toluca in their First Leg match of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Sporting KC was not hindered by their lack of match form, and after a blistering start to the game, took the lead in the 35th minute when Krisztian Nemeth smashed home the go-ahead goal.

Toluca knew they needed to improve after the break, but following several chances that fizzled out into nothing, Sporting KC doubled their lead through Gerso Fernandes.

With Sporting KC leading handsomely, Ilie Sanchez then sent the Major League Soccer side on their way to a series-defining goal with a stunning volley past Alfredo Talavera.

Both sides are set to meet again next week at the Estadio Nemesio Diez, with Toluca needing to win by at least four goals to have any chance of going through to the Quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League.
