For the first time in history, Sporting Kansas City and Toluca will face off in a competitive match as both sides are set to clash this Thursday in Kansas City as part of the Round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions League.
With Toluca struggling in Liga MX, the Diablos Rojos have a golden opportunity to get back on track, and given the timing of the tie, they will be facing a Major League Soccer side in the middle of preseason form. Traditionally, Toluca have done well against teams from the United States, with their only official defeat coming against D.C. United back in 1998.
Sporting KC, though, will have the advantage of playing at home, where they finished last season with just one defeat in their last eight games. In the CONCACAF Champions League, they’ve only lost once and have wins over Santos Laguna and Cruz Azul under their belt.
