Week 7 in Liga MX Femenil was a week full of surprises and last minute heroics.

Querétaro 1, Necaxa 1: Querétaro will feel like they left points on the table against last place Necaxa from their match on Friday. Andrea Romero got the hosts on the board in the first minute when she got her head onto a corner kick. Necaxa had only garnered three shots on goal when in the 84th minute Querétaro couldn’t c lear a corner kick out of their own box and Libeth Castro pounced on the rebound, shooting low and hard and past goalkeeper Natalia Acuña to get the draw.

Atlas 3, Santos Laguna 4: Santos Laguna pulls off the shock upset, downing Atlas in a wild one in Guadalajara. Cinthya Peraza got the scoring for Santos in the 20th minute on a free kick into the top corner of the net. Alison González would score goals in the 24th and 39th minutes, drawing Santos goalkeeper Wendy Toledo out both times. Pereza would draw her side level in the 40th minute on a shot from distance. Joana Robles would put Atlas up in the 61st minute on a perfectly executed free kick, but an autogol from María Pérez would negate the lead just four minutes later. The match looked destined for a draw until Linda Valdéz hit a half-volley off of a poor clearance in stoppage to give Santos their second win of the season.

UNAM Pumas 0, Toluca 1: Another match that looked destined for a draw until late minute heroics caused an upset. Toluca got their second win of the season when Dirce Delgado got her head on a corner kick and flicked it on past Pumas goalkeeper Melany Villeda in the 93rd minute to steal three points for Toluca.

Veracruz 0, Club América 0: Each side mustered just one shot on goal in a 0-0 draw. América goalkeeper Aurora Santiago got her third clean sheet of the season in four games, while Veracruz’ Zitlalli Gazga got her first shutout in her first start of the season.

Pachuca 3, Lobos BUAP 0: Sanjuana Muñoz capped a fantastic sequence from her teammates in the second minute and again in the 53rd minute and Lizbeth Ángeles hit a close range shot in the 25th to give Pachuca their fifth win of the season and keeping them the sole unbeaten team in Liga MX Femenil Group 1.

Tigres UANL 4, Monarcas Morelia 0: While perhaps not as lopsided as the score might indicate, it was never really in doubt for Tigres as they cruised to their fifth win of the season at the expense of winless Monarcas. Liliana Mercado got the scoring started for the home side in the 18th minute on a penalty. It would be almost an hour later when Katty Martínez would get her first goal of the evening thanks to a botched clearance attempt. She would get her league leading fifth goal of the season in the 85th when she converted Tigres’ second penalty of the evening. The evening would get worse for Sahiry Cruz in the 87th minute when she had the misfortune of scoring an own goal.

León 1, Monterrey 1: Karla Zempoalteca put León up in the 27th when she corralled a loose ball in the box off of a corner kick and poked it past goalkeeper Claudia Lozoya. Dinora Garza would earn Rayadas a point however in the 55th when she hit a beautiful arcing shot from distance. Monterrey is the only unbeaten team in Group 2.

Tijuana 0, Cruz Azul 2: Days after Cruz Azul’s men’s team manager Pedro Caixinha created an uproar with comments toward Liga MX Femenil that were roundly criticized as being sexist, Cruz Azul’s femenil team did something that Caixinha couldn’t manage to do - win their game. Sharon Barba got La Maquina on the board in the 36th minute when she hit a perfect arcing shot from the top corner of the eighteen yard box. Reyna Velázquez would get the insurance goal in the 52nd minute when she was able to seize on a poor clearance attempt in the box and drill it into the top corner of the net.
