Jonathan Orozco to remain with Santos Laguna through 2021

“Spider” extends his contract, will stay in Torreón for two more years.

Club Santos press release

Goalkeeper and team captain Jonathan “Spider” Orozco has extended his contract with Santos Laguna through 2021, the team and player announced today. Orozco’s re-signing is the third such move of the offseason, following the additions of defender Josecarlos Van Rankin and midfielder Alan Cervantes.

In a press release from the club, Orozco said “I am very happy in Torreón and with the team. I have owned the responsibility of being captain in the best possible way, obviously with that desire to win the seventh title and we won’t stop fighting until we achieve it.”

Orozco joined from rivals Monterrey before the start of the 2017 Clausura, and celebrated his 100th game with Santos earlier this year in a 4-1 win over Tijuana. The 33 year old goalkeeper has also gotten nine caps with the Mexican National Team, most recently featuring in a 3-0 win over the United States on September 6th.

“I came here to leave my name in gold,” he continued. “I want my name and my photo to be inscribed on the side of the stadium like the greatest legends of Santos.” It seems like Orozco is well on his way to achieving that end.
