Chivas completed a 3-2 win over Querétaro at Estadio Akron on Saturday to keep their faint Liguilla hopes alive.

The Rojiblancos arrived to this match needing a win to have any chance of going into Week 19 with a probability of entering the Liguilla.

A moment of brilliance from Alexis Vega opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, popping the ball over the defender before driving the ball into the back of the net to give Chivas the lead.

Eduardo “Chofis” Lopez then doubled the advantage for Chivas after slotting the ball into the lower corner of the net from the edge of the box.

Chivas looked well on their way to a dominant victory when Alan Pulido turned former Chivas defender Jair Pereira inside out and struck in the Rojiblancos’ third goal of the night. For Pulido, this was his 10th goal of the season, moving him up to second in the 2019 Apertura’s scorers table.

Early in the second half, Querétaro would receive a lifeline when a penalty was called for a handball inside the box. Jordan Sierra would step up but have this shot denied by goalkeeper Antonio Rodriguez.

With Chivas seemingly walking towards all three points, the Rojiblancos gave Querétaro a chance to climb back into this game when Jeison Lucumi got one back for the Gallos Blancos.

In the 96th minute, a second penalty was called in favor of Querétaro, and this time, Lucumi made no mistake to put los Gallos Blancos within one.

But at the end, it would be too little too late for Querétaro as Chivas earned the 3-2 win.

Los Rojiblancos will now need a combination of results to go their way in the next few days and a win over Veracruz to have any chance of sneaking into the Liguilla.
