Mexico announces squad for CONCACAF Nations League matches

Mexico National Team coach Gerardo Martino has unveiled his 23-man roster ahead of El Tri’s CONCACAF Nations League matches against Panama and Bermuda.

The roster is headlined by Wolverhampton striker Raul Jimenez and Ajax defender Edson Alvarez, while also including some notable absences like Hirving “Chucky” Lozano and Andres Guardado.

The return of Hiram Mier is amongst the most interesting additions to this squad. The talented 30-year-old defender has enjoyed a rough season with Chivas, but was once widely considered one of Mexico’s most promising defenders before injuries took a toll on him.

On paper, Mexico just need a draw from their remaining two games to advance to the CONCACAF Nations League Semifinals, but this, nonetheless, should provide a good opportunity for Martino to try out new player lineups and tactics.

The Mexico National Team roster is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Hugo Gonzalez (Necaxa), Sebastian Jurado (Veracruz), Guillermo Ochoa (Club América)

Defenders: Cristian Calderon (Necaxa), Jesus Gallardo (Monterrey), Hiram Mier (Chivas), Cesar Montes (Monterrey), Hector Moreno (Al-Gharafa), Luis “Chaka” Rodriguez (Tigres UANL), Luis Romo (Queretaro), Jorge Sanchez (Club América), Johan Vazquez (Monterrey)

Midfielders: Erick Aguirre (Pachuca), Edson Alvarez (Ajax), Sebastian Cordova (Club América), Jonathan dos Santos (LA Galaxy), Erick Gutierrez (PSV Eindhoven), Orbelin Pineda (Cruz Azul)

Forwards: Roberto Alvarado (Cruz Azul), Uriel Antuna (LA Galaxy), Jose Juan Macias (Club León), Raul Jimenez (Wolverhampton), Rodolfo Pizarro (Monterrey)
