It’s the most winning team in Liga MX history going up against the defending champion. Two of the league’s candidates to win the title face off in the opening round of the Liguilla when Club América host Tigres in the First Leg of their Quarterfinals matchup.

Given their history, Club América are undoubtedly always considered a serious candidate, but they have a though matchup on hand as they take on a Tigres team that finished the season unbeaten in their last eight matches.

Las Águilas also haven’t played a game in more than three weeks, so the question of whether Miguel Herrera’s men will be rusty or not will surely be a topic of discussion early into the match.

In addition to the quality of the teams that will be facing off in this early-Liguilla series, there is also the intrigue of it being a growing rivalry. América and Tigres have recently made it a habit of of facing off in big games, and some are even calling this a new “clásico”. This will already be their fourth matchup this semester, with all three previous matchups finishing in draws after 90 minutes (Club América technically winning the first matchup on penalties, while Tigres also winning the second on penalties).

No matter if you consider this a clásico or not, the fact of the matter is this is as big of a Quarterfinals as it gets in Liga MX, and the hope is this serves as the perfect dessert for what we wish is an amazing Thanksgiving for everybody!
