Rodrigo Ares de Parga has announced that he will be stepping down as Pumas President this December. Ares de Parga sent a letter after rumors abounded in the Mexican press that he had a meeting with UNAM’s dean where he told the dean he would be stepping down in December and that his resignation was accepted. As President, Ares de Parga has earned the scorn of most Pumas fans and the news will be seen as an early Christmas present for most of them, although it still to early to know who will be the replacement.
Ares de Parga’s tenure as head of Pumas has been one of the worst in recent times. With bad decisions and a squad that is constantly lacking in quality and depth, a lot of the accusations have been against him as president, even more so than the coaches. Situations like when he was secretly taped screaming at Pumas legend and sports director Leandro Augusto after a loss against Cruz Azul all have grown the animosity most fans had to Ares de Parga. Even his departure has been filled with controversy, as some rumors and reports on the internet talk about a possible investigation of money laundering against Ares de Parga and Pumas being the cause of Ares de Parga stepping down. During his tenure, Pumas was supposedly going to only concentrate on youth prospect and not make big signings, but not many prospects made the team and besides Carlos Gonzalez, few signings made a serious impact to the team. There is no word yet on a replacement or the investigations from Pumas front office.
