Rayados de Monterrey’s Rogelio Funes Mori was named Liga Bancomer MX Player of the Week for Jornada 4 by a poll of Liga MX English-language writers and broadcasters.

Despite a match drenched in both controversy and rain, Funes Mori had two goals in Monterrey’s 3-2 win against Club América, including the game winner in the 70th minute.

In the second half of an official game-turned-scrimmage of nine on nine, Funes Mori gave Monterrey the lead after booting a dagger into the corner of Agustin Marchesin’s net.

Two minutes later, Funes Mori received the ball in the area on an assist from Edson Gutierrez and cut inside twice, defenders falling all around him, before again beating Marchesin in thrilling fashion.

“Funes Mori’s second goal was a brilliant individual play in front of net and pushed the Rayados’ lead to two, standing up as the difference in the match.” - Tom Buckley, Viva Liga MX

In addition to the goals, the Argentine had three total shots on target, 4 out of 5 successful dribbles, a 70 percent passing accuracy and won 14 of his 20 duels against Las Aguilas, according to SofaScore, earning him a 9.0 match rating.

Funes Mori’s four goals this season has him tied with Leonardo Ramos of Lobos BUAP as the leading goalscorer in Liga Bancomer MX.

The win catapulted Monterrey to the top of the table with 10 points and still no losses so far in the campaign. Rayados have also scored an incredible 12 goals in the first four matches, with Funes Mori’s efforts making up 33 percent of that tally.
