Short weeks are never easy on players, however some of the goals scored this past week belie that conventional wisdom in just how easy they’re made to look.
Club América 1, Puebla 0: A rather calm game by Club América standards, as both teams seemed to be suffering from some tired legs due to the mid-week fixture. The one player who didn’t seem to show any effects was América’s Diana González, who was everywhere and topped her performance with an absolute screamer of a goal.

Toluca 2, Cruz Azul 1: It looked like Cruz Azul was going to get their first win of the season when Norma Gaitan’s goal was still the only score on the board heading into stoppage time. But Andrea Hernández would take matters into her own hands, hitting a rocket of a free kick in the 89th to tie the game and then winning it in stoppage when she intercepted a pass, turned, and fired another blast into the top of the net to give the hosts a dramatic win.

Atlas 4, Querétaro 0: A dominant win for Atlas, who remain tied atop Group 2. Alejandra Franco got the scoring started in the 14th minute with a fantastic shot that dipped just under the bar and in. Not to be outdone, Fabiola Ibarra would hit a stunner of her own in the 39th minute. Minutes later, Alison González would beat the offside trap to get the ball and beat goalkeeper Natalia Acuña to get the third goal of the match. Adriana Iturbide would get one more for the road for the hosts in the 89th when she spun away from her defender in the box and blew one past Acuña.

Santos Laguna 1, Tigres UANL 3: A quick double-fire from Tigres early in the game would give the guests an insurmountable lead, and they’d go on to win 3-1. Belén Cruz got the scoring started in the second minute on a free kick that somehow made its way through traffic and past goalkeeper Wendy Toledo. Two minutes later, María Elizondo would double the lead when she was on the receiving end of a give-and-go. Santos’ Yahaira Flores would draw one back for Santos on a brilliant pass that seemed to catch the defense flat-footed. Blanca Solís would get one more for Tigres when she got her head on the end of a corner kick just before halftime.

Necaxa 1, Monarcas Morelia 1: A mistake from goalkeeper Andrea Rivera would gift Estela Gomez the ball in the box, and Gomez would put Monarcas up in the 35th minute. Liliana Sánchez would salvage a point for the hosts however when she connected with a corner kick in the 61st minute to win Rayos their first point of 2019.

Lobos BUAP 1, Tijuana 1: It looked like it would be another disappointing match for Xolos when Claudia Cid scored in the 11th minute for Lobos thanks to some poor defending. Tijuana would hang in there however and Alondra Carmago would equalize thanks to a fantastic backheel pass to spring her past the defense and into space.

Pachuca 3, UNAM Pumas 0: It was the Mónica Ocampo show, as the veteran forward had two of Pachuca’s three goals against a good Pumas side. Ocampo got her first in the 29th minute when she’d get a perfect touch onto a ball from deep to push it over goalkeeper Melany Villeda. Ocampo would double the lead thanks to a header from a cross in the 47th minute. Sanjuana Muñoz would round out the scoring in the 58th minute when she’s split the center backs and take full advantage of the space afforded.

Monterrey 2, Chivas 1: Dania Pérez got Chivas on the board in the ninth minute on a perfectly executed free kick from just outside of the 18 yard box. But Norali Armenta would tie the game in the 22nd minute when she was in the right place at the right time to clean up a rebound off of a free kick. Mariana Cadena would get the game winner in the 83rd minute when goalkeeper Blanca Félix mis-handled a free kick and Cadena was there to pounce on the rebound and put it home to give Rayadas the win.
