Pumas will try to turn things around as they face a must-win game in Copa MX against Universidad de Guadalajara. Pumas will have to travel to Guadalajara as they play their first away game in the cup competition, where they already stumbled against Atlas. Meanwhile, this will be the Copa MX debut of Leones Negros as they also hope to turn things around after losing to FC Juarez in the Liga de Ascenso.
Week 2 might be too early for a “must-win game”, but after falling against Atlas at home, it most definitely is for Pumas. The short time frame that Copa MX has means that Pumas must pick points against the weakest opponent (as the only Ascenso MX team) in the group. But Pumas has only gotten a point out of their three games played so far in 2019 and it was against what many people think is the worst Liga MX team, Veracruz. There is no room for excuses, even if Pumas uses a lineup mixed with youngsters and a few veterans.
One thing that may complicate things a bit more for Pumas is that they will also be without their best prospect, defender Alan Mozo, who will be playing with Mexico’s U-23.
Universidad de Guadalajara will make their Copa MX debut in the Estadio Jalisco, in a tournament where home games are key for Ascenso MX teams. Technically for Leones Negros, it’s also something of a must-win game, given that this is their only real home game in the competition as Atlas also play their home games in the same stadium.
