There’s no place like home for Santos Laguna (0W 0D 1L). Los Guerreros lost only one regular season game there in all of 2018, and they’ll look to continue that dominance as they host Monarcas Morelia (0W 0D 1L) today.
Santos comes into the game on the heels of a 2-0 road loss to Lobos BUAP (1W 0D 0L). Santos had plenty of chances in the first half, but their failure to convert their chances allowed Lobos to stay in the game and ultimately pull out the win.
It wasn’t all bad for Santos though. Ayrton Preciado looked like a natural fit to replace departed forward Jonathan Rodríguez, and Brayan Garnica looked dangerous along the right wing. Santos had the chances, and perhaps a home field advantage will see some of those chances turn into goals.

Monarcas comes in having lost 3-1 to Toluca (1W 0D 0L) at home thanks to a fine performance by Liga MX English Player of the Week Enrique Triverio, who scored all three goals against Morelia. Morelia’s defense looked a bit out of sorts, something that has plagued them for a few seasons. Since allowing just 17 goals (fourth fewest in the league) in the 2017 Apertura, Morelia has allowed a staggering 53 goals in the two plus seasons.
Monarcas will need to get their offense more involved, but their top pairing of Miguel Sansores and Carlos Fierro is inconsistent at best. They only created four shots on goal against Toluca, and a similar showing against Santos on the road most likely won’t be enough.
Both teams will look to put out an improved performance over last week, and both are certainly capable of doing just that. In the final match of Week 2, we could see exactly what both teams are made of.
