Chivas to open Club World Cup against AFC champions

Chivas Guadalajara will open their 2018 Club World Cup adventure on December 15 against the 2018 AFC Champions League winner. The draw for the tournament, which is set to take place in the United Arab Emirates, was held on Tuesday in Zurich, Switzerland.

In the case Chivas win their match, they would take on Real Madrid in the Semifinals four days later in Abu Dhabi.

Currently, the 2018 AFC Champions League is in its Quarterfinal stage. Among the teams Chivas could face are some big names that used to play in Europe. In particular, former Barcelona captain Xavi Hernandez who now plays for Al-Sadd and Alexandre Pato of Tianjin Quanjian. The other teams in the Quarterfinals are Esteghlal FC, Kashima Antlers, Persepolis FC, Jeonbuk Motors, Al-Duhail, and Suwon Bluewings.

Chivas arrive to the tournament as the reigning CONCACAF Champions League winners and this will be their first ever participation in a Club World Cup.
