Week 1 had a little bit of everything - great goals, shutouts, and a Clásico.
Cruz Azul 2, Lobos BUAP 3: Claudia Cid’s goal in the 77th minute grabbed all three points for Lobos BUAP, as the Poblano side downed Cruz Azul 3-2. Cheyli Almejo started the scoring in the 7th minute for the visitors, but goals from Daniela Moroy in the 42nd and Daniela Fuentes in the 61st saw Cruz Azul up late. Brenda León would get credited with the equalizer in the 71st, although it was really an error on the part of Cruz Azul goalkeeper Mariana Zárraga that allowed the tying goal. But it was Cid’s goal that cinched it for Lobos, who now sit in fifth place in Group 1.

Necaxa 0, Monterrey 2: Claudia Lozoya kept a clean sheet and goals from Diana Evangelista and Mónica Monsiváis gave visiting Monterrey their fourth win of the season over winless Necaxa. Evangelista’s sixth goal of the season was also Liga MX Femenil’s 1000th goal scored. The goal puts her in a four way tie for the top goalscorer in the league, but watch the assist from Dinora Garza on the goal.

Puebla 3, Pachuca 3: Pachuca’s Yanin Madrid and Puebla’s Jessica Tenorio both had braces and Nayali Peréz and Lisbeth Ángelesalso contributed goals as Puebla and Pachuca drew 3-3. Normally I’d post a video of the best goal scored if it was available, but four of the six are worth your time to watch.
Monarcas Morelia 3, Santos Laguna 2: Lizette Rodríguez, Madeleine Pasco, and Eleisa Santos scored in the first half for Monarcas, but a late brace from Yahaira Flores almost salvaged a draw for Santos. In the end, Morelia would hang on for their second win of the season.

Toluca 1, Club América 1: A game with playoff implications, first place Toluca and third place América are separated by only two points and for a while it looked like Toluca were going to pull away thanks to a goal by Andrea Hernández in the 70th minute. The visitors would pull out the tie thanks to a fantastic goal in the 89th minute. Esmerelda Verdugo played a perfect pass into space that Betzy Cuevas was able to get on the end of. She lured goalkeeper Alondra Ubaldo out, cut around her to Ubaldo’s left, and calmly slotted the ball home.
Chivas 2, Atlas 0: The Clásico Tapatío would see hosts Chivas defeat cross-town rivals Atlas 2-0 in front of over 4300 people. Miriam García gave Chivas the lead just 50 seconds into the game off of a corner kick, but it was Arlett Tovar’s rocket in the 73rd that put the exclamation point on the victory for the hosts.

Tigres UANL 1, Club León 1: Denise Valdez hit a long-range bomb to give León the lead in the 55th minute, but Katty Martínez’ header off of a corner kick in stoppage time would salvage the draw for Tigres.
