Cruz Azul stayed top of the league table after goals from Adrian Aldrete and Milton Caraglio gave them a 2-0 home win over Atlas on Saturday.

La Maquina dominated from the start and took an 18th minute lead when Aldrete unleashed a long-range missile into the back of the net.

Atlas didn’t spring into action until the 40th minute. Octavio Rivero found himself with just Jose de Jesus Corona to beat, but the forward anticipated his shot too quickly and the Cruz Azul goalkeeper palmed his shot away.

Moments later, Milton Caraglio had one of his team’s best chances of the game when he failed to convert from point-blank range following a lovely cross from Aldrete.

But Caraglio would bounce back in the 57th minute after a deflected effort from the 29-year-old Argentine forward bounced past the goalkeeper to double Cruz Azul’s lead.

With the winless Rojinegros down 2-0, they finally had their first big chances of the second half when Leiton Jimenez sent a header wide before Corona was forced to a save from Andres Andrade on a 1 v. 1 situation.

At the end, Cruz Azul had no problem closing out to game to move back to the top of the league table with 23 points.
