Club América recovered from a late Edson Alvarez red card to earn a dramatic 3-2 win over Puebla on Friday.
Las Águilas, looking for their first win against Puebla in nine Liga MX matche,s took an early lead when a penalty was called in the ninth minute and Cecilio Dominguez converted from the spot.
The goal seemed to have inspired Puebla, who took control of the proceedings and eventually equalized in the 43rd minute. Lucas Cavallini prodded home a perfect Alejandro Chumacero cross.
Puebla’s joy was short-lived, and just moments later, Oribe Peralta took advantage of a fortunate bounce inside the box following a corner kick to fire las Águilas back into the lead.
But Puebla battled back with Daniel Arreola converting a 60th minute header to put the score at 2-2.
With three minutes to go in the match, Edson Alvarez aimed an aggression at an opposing Puebla player, costing him his second yellow of the match and a sending off.
When it looked like nothing was gonna separate both teams, a corner kick finished with Bruno Valdez poking in the winner in injury time to temporarily elevate América to the top of the league table.
