The Champions League Group Stage made its return on Tuesday, with all four Mexican players in the competition getting a piece of the action.
It all started early in the evening, as Hirving “Chucky” Lozano got the start for PSV Eindhoven in their game against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
While Chucky look dangerous all game, even earning Samuel Umtiti a red card in the second half, the night belonged to Lionel Messi. The Argentine scored three times to cap off a 4-0 win for the Catalan giants.
Erick Gutierrez played the final eight minutes of the match, coming on for Pablo Rosario late in the game.
In the other match of the night, Hector Herrera captained an FC Porto side that managed to salvage a 1-1 draw in their visit to Schalke 04.
The Portuguese champions had a real chance to take the lead early in the game when a penalty was called for a handball in the 13th minute, but Alex Telles failed to convert, in what turned out to be an otherwise boring first half.
The game did eventually pick up and Schalke took the lead through Breel Embolo, only for FC Porto to equalize 10 minutes later from a second penalty.
Jesus Manuel “Tecatito” Corona played the final 30 minutes of the match and picked up what appeared to be a nose injury.
