Prior to the international break, las Águilas had been in some fine form. Through their first 8 matches of the season, Club América finds themselves sitting in fourth place of the Liga MX table with 14 points and a +7 goal difference. A big reason for las Águilas recent form has been the play of Oribe Peralta. In eight games, Peralta is the club’s leading goalscorer with four. Guido Rodríguez and Roger Martínez are tied for second place on the club’s goalscoring charts with two a piece.
Miguel Herrera will be hoping that his squad can continue their pre-international break form when they host a very tough Monarcas Morelia squad. This season, Monarcas have been lead by the great play of Carlos Fierro who has three goals in just four league matches. Ray Sandoval and Irven Avila have also played an important role for Morelia adding two goals a piece.
Recently, Monarcas have been struggling to get results. In their last seven matches, across all competitions, the squad from Morelia has only managed to get a single victory. Most recently, Monarcas suffered an embarrassing 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Querétaro. There will have to be marked improvement if the visitors want to take anything from their trip to the historic Estadio Azteca.
Given the recent form of both clubs, expect las Águilas to run away with this match. Club América at home should be far too much for a struggling Monarcas.
