Luis Mendoza’s 69th minute goal denied Chivas their first three points of the 2018 Liga MX Apertura, as Toluca earned 2-2 draw over the Rebaño in what was a bright attacking display from both teams.
Angel Zaldivar was the scorer of both of Chivas’s goals, but it was the Diablos Rojos who took the lead after just four minutes when Alexis Vega fired the ball in following a stupendous through ball from Rubens Sambueza.
Chivas did not equalize until the 43rd minute when Gael Sandoval’s curling effort rebounded off the woodwork for Angel Zaldivar to score from the rebound.
Buoyed after scoring late in the first half, Chivas started the second period better, and Zaldivar had a spring in his step when he scored his second goal of the game. A cross from the right wing from Isaac Brizuela ended with a diving header from Zaldivar to score the go-ahead goal.
Toluca eventually hauled themselves back into the game in the 69th minute. It was a sucker punch for Chivas, as a diagonal cross from Cristian Borja found Luis Mendoza to put the score at 2-2.
With time running out, the game turned chippy, with Alfredo Talavera and Orbelin Pineda both sent off for Toluca and Chivas respectively. At the end, however, both teams settled for the point in one of the most entertaining matches in this 2018 Liga MX Apertura.
