Monterrey travel to the Estadio Cuauhtémoc to take on Club Puebla for the third time this Apertura season, looking to get a better result than they did the last time los Rayados visited, as they gave up a late goal to end with a draw in Copa MX action.
Control orientado.

Los Rayados will also be looking to build upon their come-from-behind win against Venados in the midweek Copa MX match that saw them give up a rather embarrassing goal to put the Ascenso team ahead 2-1. Luis Madrigal scored the winning goal in the dying embers of stoppage time from low, fast cross from Dorlan Pabón, who did well to control a cross field ball and put in a cross that was able to be easily turned into the goal by Madrigal.
Puebla was a bogey team for Monterrey last season, as Monterrey got zero points in both the Apertura 2017 and Clausura 2018 from the matches against Puebla. And while Monterrey did beat Club Puebla at home earlier in the Copa MX, they have sorely missed the attacking presence of Rogelio Funes Mori, who has continued to be out with an injury.
Los Rayados will probably start Marcelo Barovero in goal, a defense of Stefan Medina, Nico Sanchez, José Basanta, and Leonel Vangioni. Eric Cantu and Celso Oritz have been alternating starts with Jonathan Gonzalez in the central midfield, with Rodolfo Pizarro playing behind the lone striker of Madrigal, with Pabón playing on the right wing and Avilés Hurtado on the left wing. If manager Diego Alonso wishes to shake things up, Mexico World Cup star Jesus Gallardo can come in and play at either left back or left wing.
Will Puebla continue their curse over los Rayados? Or will Monterrey finally put to bed their habit of scoring early and being wasteful with chances, only to have the other team score late goals on them? It should be an interesting match up with Monterrey, who are second in the table with 16 points, one behind leaders Cruz Azul, facing off against Puebla, who are in 14th place on seven points.
