Two of the hottest teams in Liga MX face off in Torreón as Santos Laguna (4W 1D 1L) host Cruz Azul (5W 1D 0L). Santos returns home after gutting out a tough draw against Tijuana (1W 3D 2L) earlier in the week thanks to a last minute goal by Julio Furch. Heading into the week, Furch and fellow striker Jonathan Rodríguez were tied for second in goals scored with four each, trailing only André-Pierre Gignac.

Santos’ offense will have a tough time against Cruz Azul’s defense, which has allowed just one goal in the Apertura. Anchored by goalkeeper Jesús Corona and center back Pablo Aguilar, the defense has been able to stymie everyone they’ve faced.

Cruz Azul’s attack is multi-faceted, with offensive threats such as Martín Cauteruccio, Milton Caraglio, and Elías Hernández making things difficult for opposing defenses. Santos fans will be eagerly anticipating the lineup, as Jonathan Orozco was a late scratch against Tijuana due to a shoulder injury. If Orozco is unable to go, Carlos Acevedo has performed admirably in his starts this season.

Both of these teams will look to leapfrog Monterrey (5W 0D 1L) into first place, and both can make a real statement against a strong opponent. It should be some of the best viewing in Liga MX this week.
