Monterrey go into the Copa MX match already on top of their group with six points from two matches, having defeated both Club Puebla and Venados FC in their previous two Apertura 2018 Copa MX matches. A win against Puebla, who is second in the group with three points, would be enough to see Monterrey through to the knockout rounds of the Copa MX.

¡¡¡RAYADOS, URGE DELANTERO MATÓN!!! ¡¡¡NECESITAMOS UN 9!!!
Los Rayados were rocked with the news that Rogelio Funes Mori will be out “two to three weeks” due to an injury, causing some mild panic. This news, combined with the slow start from Rodolfo Pizarro and the injury to Arturo González, might derail other teams, however, Monterrey is still deep enough to overcome these kinds of issues.
Dorlan Pabón has started both of the previous Copa MX matches for Monterrey, and there is no reason to believe he won’t start tonight. Luis Madrigal might get the start up front again, with Avilés Hurtado saved for the upcoming Liga MX match against Pumas this weekend.
The stakes for this match are fairly low, as almost any result against Puebla will surely see Monterrey through, and even if they somehow don’t even pick up a point, Monterrey still has to play Venados a second time and given that Venados has yet to register a point in the contest, Monterrey is likely to pick up another three points in the competition.
Expect Monterrey to be able to win this match with a large influx of reserve players, as the first team players will likely be rested after a tough loss away at América last weekend and a match against league leaders Pumas coming up.
