Despite another bold performance from Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, Mexico once again fell short in the round of 16 for their seventh consecutive World Cup. Throughout the tournament, Ochoa repeatedly kept Mexico in the battle in many different occasions, which earned him 24 saves in four matches.

At the start of the tournament, Mexico faced none other then the current champions Germany, where the entire Mexico National Team had a performance of a lifetime. Ochoa had 9 saves, all of which where crucial in keeping the 1-0 win in favor of El Tri.

In the second game, Ochoa had a total of 5 saves, but had one goal netted towards the end of the match , a shot that was near impossible to stop.

In the Round of 16, Guillermo Ochoa had 8 crucial saves versus Brazil, in which many could have made the defeat a higher margin. Facing an elite player like Neymar, who at the time had attempted the most shots (23) and shots on target (12) throughout the World Cup, making him the busiest player in the tournament, Ochoa showed once again why he should be considered a top goalkeeper in the world.

Guillermo Ochoa should be in a top European club after his back-to-back heroic performances with his national team. It’s only a matter of time a club gives him the platform to showcase his skills.
