One of the standout performers for the Mexico national team throughout the World Cup has been Carlos Salcedo. Now the Eintracht Frankfurt center back is considering retiring from International Football.
“I honestly don’t know.” Salcedo said after the game. “I am devastated. I don’t know if I will take a decision or not, but I have a lot to think about.”
Understandably, Salcedo may just be expressing himself at the heat of moment, but for a player in Europe, national team duties can be exhausting, considering most of Mexico’s games take place in the United States. That could be reason enough for Salcedo to take a brief pause to his international career.
However, at 24-years-old, his future with El Tri is still bright, and many consider him one of the future leaders within the national team.
Salcedo made his first appearance for Mexico in 2015 before becoming an integral part in coach Juan Carlos Osorio’s system.
