Mexico beat Croatia to finish in second place of the Niigata Youth Tournament. Mexico won two games and finished with 6 points. Japan was the champions as they won all their games.
Mexico started the tournament by losing to Japan by a score of 2-1. Santiago Gimenez, the son of ex Cruz Azul star Christian “Chaco” Gimenez, scored the only goal for the Mexican team. Mexico then bounced back to beat the home team Niigata by a score of 1-0. The only goal was scored by Christopher Torres. They finished the tournament by defeating Crotia with a 2-0 score. The goals were scored by Sebastian Martinez and Edgar Games.
While the second place finish is a positive one, it’s a similar result to the one they had on their recent tour of Portugal. In said tour, the U-18 team started with a defeat to the home team Portugal by a score of 2-1. They then tied France’s U-19 team by a score of 2-2. In their final game they defeated Belarus 2-1.
