At just 22 years old of age, Hirving “ Chucky” Lozano has become the face of the national team of Mexico. And why not? After great back to back performances against Germany and South Korea, Lozano has been a key figure in leading Mexico to first place in the group. So much has been the enthusiasm over Lozano, that on Saturday against Korea the teams entered the field to “El Chucky Lozano, El Chucky Lozano” to the sound of Seven nation Army.

Last week’s performance made Chucky a national hero, scoring the only goal to beat the World Champions Germany. Chucky not only participated on offense, but managed to help to keep the 1-0 lead showing versatility, utilizing his speed down the stretch of the field and becaming a nightmare for the Germany defense.

Saturday’s performance against South Korea was nothing less. He participated in both offense and defense and balanced duties perfectly. In the first 13-15 minutes of the first half, Lozano had two crucial plays where he managed to put his body on the line to stop South Korea from scoring. In addition, South Korea had a counter attack from a corner that Mexico did not execute properly which Lozano managed to stop with a strong slide tackle. This gave Mexico time to adjust quickly on defensive side of the ball.
His numbers vs South Korea have a great significance, too: 1 assist, 3 shots on goal, 13 passes, 6 dribbles, 3 tackles, 2 intercepted passes, 37 touches off the ball and five fouls committed against him.

Right before Lozano was subbed out in the 70th minute, he returned an assist to Javier Hernandez, in a play very similar to the goal Lozano scored against Germany. This gave El Tri a 2-0 lead and ultimately became the game-winning goal.

Indeed, Chucky has turned heads at this World Cup, becoming one the most exciting young talents to observe. With the statements he is making, perhaps a top European Club has set their eyes on him. Again, he is only 22 years of age, must I remind you.
