Brayan Beckeles saved Necaxa from defeat to salvage a point from a 1-1 draw with Club América.
It looked like Cecilio Dominguez’s 60th minute goal would be enough to give the Águilas all three points after they deservedly took the lead from a penalty kick.
Necaxa had chances to equalize, although not very convincing ones, until Brayan Beckeles struck a left-footed shot into the back of the net following a corner.
The Rayos nearly gave themselves a chance to win just moments later when Victor Davila forced a save out of Agustin Marchesin.
As the clock reached the final minute of play, former Club América defender Ventura Alvarado received his marching orders, leaving Necaxa down to 10 men.
Necaxa eventually saw out the final seconds of the match to earn a valuable point in their fight for a Ligulla spot.
While the result was a disappointing one for América, their biggest loss may have been in the form of injury to one of their star players. Paraguayan forward Cecilio Dominguez is doubtful for Tuesday’s CCL match against Toronto FC with a thigh injury, match in which América will have to overturn a 3-1 deficit if they want to reach the Final.
